Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Gonzalez and Llanos execute brilliant fourth quarter, fall to Haskell 79-74

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Jan. 9, 2026) — Women's basketball (6-8) recorded a superb 26-point fourth quarter in a near-comeback loss to fellow Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) member, Haskell Indian Nations University (6-14). Freshman Ziul Gonzalez and junior Kaylee Llanos were electric in critical moments, but FNU recorded 23 turnovers and allowed Haskell 28 offensive rebounds in its first conference game of the season.

The first quarter was a fast-paced affair, with FNU losing possession of the ball due to dangerous passes in the middle of the court or in transition underneath its basket. FNU saw 10 of its 23 giveaways come in the first 10 minutes and, as a result, trailed Haskell 25-13 heading into the second. Ivy Fox had eight points in the frame on 4-7 shooting from close range, while Gonzalez kept FNU competitive with eight points in eight minutes. Neither team shot the ball well from three and relied heavily on easy baskets in transition, feeding their streaking forwards for easy buckets.

Llanos was great in the second, picking up five points to help her team post 18 in the period. FNU, however, had no answer for Fox and the White Shield, North Dakota, native neutralized FNU's 57.1% shooting in the quarter with a seven-point burst before halftime. This kept Haskell in the driver's seat, leaving FNU trailing 44-37 at the break.

The third quarter was another strong stretch of basketball for Fox, adding 12 points to her total, missing just three of her eight shots attempted. Three-point shooting was still atrocious for each side, but FNU was able to clean up its offense with just four turnovers. The Conquistadors also stepped up their pressure on defense and forced an impressive seven steals with six different players sinking the ball in the net in the frame.

FNU's fourth quarter was the most complete period of basketball for the team out of Hialeah, Fla., outscoring Haskell by 11. FNU was down 16 entering the fourth and ate away at Haskell's lead with such efficiency that a made three from Llanos with five minutes left tied the game at 69. HINU scored just five points in that same stretch but was able to find its spot near the rim with timely layups from Ona Dauphinais and Jazlynn Nosie to put Haskell back on top when it mattered most.

Gonzalez added 10 points in the fourth to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Llanos had 13 in the fourth to end her night with 21 points, three rebounds and three steals. Lamaria Williams and Valeria Cifuentes combined for 12 points, while Karla Quintero's second game of the season ended with five points and three boards for the 6-1 freshman.
