Conquistadors cool RV Southeastern Fire on the road 2-1

LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2025) — Florida National (2-0-2) bested the RV Southeastern University Fire (2-2-1) Saturday, behind goals from David Luque Rivero and Diego Lozano. This is the second win against the Fire for the Conquistadors, as SEU holds the series advantage 3-2-1.

Florida National got off to a great start in Lakeland, Fla., despite a weather delay that stalled kick-off for an hour. Fabio Zandona Tajra and Juan Pugin connected a string of passes for Lozano's second goal of 2025. The first for the newcomer came in a 1-1 draw against the RV St. Thomas University Bobcats on Aug. 26.

FNU's lead, unfortunately, did not make it to the halftime whistle. SEU's Fabio De Paula scored his third goal of the season on an assist from Pietro Bronzin and Sebastian Riebartsch with just under eight minutes to play in the period. Facundo Jose Terra had an opportunity before halftime to get FNU back on top, but had his attempt land in the gloves of SEU goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins.

The Conquistadors posted 12 shots in the opening 45 compared to SEU's five. FNU also drew four of the game's five corners while both teams combined for 27 fouls.

In the final 45 minutes, Luque proved to be the hero with an unassisted stunner six minutes into the period. SEU could not recover, recording just three shots in the period. FNU continued to press the issue with three shots on goal in the frame and worked the clock perfectly down the stretch to claim its second victory of the young 2025 campaign.

Notably, this is Luque's second consecutive game with at least one goal and his fourth score this week after posting a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Ave Maria University Sept. 1.

Up Next: FNU hits the road once again, visiting the New College of Florida Banyans Sept. 11 for an 11 a.m. game.
