Suarez’s win denies the Bobcats the sweep Friday

HIALEAH, Fla. (April 11, 2025) — Florida National men's tennis (1-8) earned its second 4-1 loss of the 2025 season, falling to fellow Sun Conference member St. Thomas University (3-13). The Bobcats secured their first TSC win this season, while FNU moved to 1-5 in conference play.

In the doubles section of the match, STU got off to a great start on the courts of James H Goodlet Park. FNU's cross-town foe delivered a 6-2 win over FNU's Lukas Nico Kopitzki and Ignacio Acosta. Partners Leon Emich and Josh Cronje outlasted Gustavo Masu and Luigi Stefanacci 6-4 to cinch the opening point. 

Daniele Trentin and Alejandro Suarez's match opposite Luca Vogel and Jan Gewaltig was left unfinished at 4-4.

In singles play, Suarez had the best showing for FNU. He posted a hard-earned 6-3, 6-3 victory over Emich despite STU grabbing the win off three impressive singles wins. Fabrizio Moreno took down Ignacio Acosta 6-4, 6-1, and Stefanacci fought valiantly in the second set before falling to Arthur Bugeaud 6-1, 7-5. 

STU's William Rosencratz went to work for a stellar 6-4, 6-1 triumph against David Santamaria to end things at the Goodlet Tennis Center. FNU is now 1-7 against STU since 2019, and this is the first time they have fallen by a margin of 4-1. 

Up Next: FNU ends the regular season against No. 4 Keiser University at Goodlet Park. The match will begin at noon.
