Conquistadors concede match to SEU Fire

HIALEAH, Fla. (March 29, 2025) — Florida National men's tennis (1-7) fell to 1-4 in The Sun Conference, dropping a 4-0 match against the No.3-ranked Southeastern Fire Saturday. SEU is now 5-1 against Florida National all-time.

FNU fell behind early, dropping two doubles matches to give SEU a 1-0 advantage. Lukas Nico Kopitzki and Mats-Jonathan Werner lost to Gonzalo Fernandez and Javier Gallego 6-0. Diego Menendez and Piero Fernandez did their job with an impressive 6-1 win over FNU's Daniele Trentin and Alejandro Suarez.

A thrilling match for FNU's Anis Kerfah and Ignacio Acosta against SEU's Mark Grin and Gustavo Rubio was left unfinished.

In singles play, losses from Werner, Suarez and David Santamaria put an end to FNU's comeback hopes. Gonzalo Fernandez bested Werner 6-2, 6-1, and Acosta fell in straight 6-2 sets opposite Piero Fernandez.

Menendez had the most impressive showing for the Fire, defeating Santamaria in back-to-back 6-0 frames.
