Women’s tennis capsize Mariners Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 22, 2025) — Florida National women's tennis (2-4) produced another dominant win over a fellow Sun Conference team, defeating the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners (4-9) 4-0 Saturday. This is FNU's first program win over the CCG Mariners.

In doubles play, the Conquistadors took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a win from duo Julia Chodkowska and Vanessa Simone. The pair defeated Coastal Georgia's Karlie Scott Kersey and Kourtny Kosto by a score of 6-4.

FNU locked up the match thanks to wins by Nadia Abad and Alara Juelide Akgul. Abad defeated Kosto in a 6-3, 6-1 rout, while freshman Lyla Johnson was the next CCG player to come up short. Akgul handed the Sylvania, Ga., native a 6-0, 6-1 loss at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex.

The early victory left Chodkowska, Simone and Celeste Deniz Reyes's singles matches unfinished.
