Conquistadors withstand Mariners 4-3 on the road

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 22, 2025) — Conquistador men's tennis (1-5) outlasted a tough College of Coastal Georgia (5-9) squad Saturday 4-3. This is the Conquistadors' first Sun Conference win since joining the TSC in 2023-24.

The afternoon's doubles competition was highlighted by a spirited 6-3 win from Daniele Trentin and Alejandro Suarez. The FNU pair took down CCG's Leonardo Ciriaci and Max Kirmayr. Lukas Nico Kopitzki and Mats-Jonathan Werner combined for a 6-4 triumph opposite Gonzalo Tano and Caspar Grylls, giving FNU the early 1-0 match lead.

Singles play proved to be a competitive slate for FNU, but the visiting team used three huge victories to close out a long-awaited win. Luigi Stefanacci played a major role with his stellar 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 comeback win against Pierre-Emmanuel Kassubeck. 

Kopitzki had an easier time in his singles match, besting Leonardo Marin 6-4, 6-2. A clutch win by Suarez proved to be just enough to ice out the Mariners, as he topped Gonzalo Tano 4-6, 7-6 [7-5], 6-1.

Coastal Georgia did forge a formidable comeback, posting a 6-3, 6-4 win by Luis Solorzona against Gustavo Masu and a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Fernando Arturo Munoz Miranda by Max Kirmayr. Notably, Leonardo Ciriaci bested David Santamaria 6-3, 6-1, but their efforts were not enough to deny a hungry Conquistador ensemble.

This was only FNU's second-ever match against CCG, and they now stand at 1-1 against the Mariners all-time.
