Women’s tennis swept by Raiders

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (March 17, 2025) — Florida National women's tennis (1-3) failed to earn back-to-back wins after losing to the Colgate University Raiders (9-6). The NCAA DI team out of Hamilton, New York, dominated every match in The Gables.

Doubles play was a prelude to a strong match by the visiting Raiders. Alara Juelide Akgul and Nadia Abad posted a 6-3 loss to Amelia Galin and Sophia Montero. Celeste Deniz Reyes and Lavinia Anais Karadža also fell 6-3 against Rebecca Hess and Addie Eklund. A 6-1 rout by Carina Cristobal and Eliza Podlas against FNU's Natalia Calvo and Fabiola Bsereni rounded out an early 1-0 Raider lead.

In singles play, FNU faced similar struggles, falling in all six matches. Celeste showed some fight in a 6-0, 7-5 loss to Montero, and Abad was able to make things interesting in a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Cristobal.

The Raiders dominated the other four matches, including a 6-1, 6-2 win for Galin over Julia Chodkowska. Akgul ran into some trouble in her 6-0, 6-3 defeat at the hands of Eklund. Calvo fell to Hess, 6-1, 6-0 and Karadža missed the mark in straight sets versus Podlas, 6-2. 

This is the first match between these two East Coast universities, and FNU women's tennis moves to 0-3 against NCAA DI and DII opponents in 2025. 

Up Next: Tennis will be in Georgia for two Sun Conference matches against SCAD Savannah and the College of Coastal Georgia on March 21-22.
