Conquistadors come up short against NCAA DI Colgate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (March 17, 2025) — Conquistador men's tennis (0-4) suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of the NCAA DI Colgate University Raiders (8-5). The Raiders out of Hamilton, New York, posted a 7-0 victory despite doubles partners Lukas Nico Kopitzki and Mats-Jonathan Werner earning a 6-3 win. 

To start the match, Colgate took a 1-0 lead thanks to a 6-2 doubles win from Aidan Chung and Tim Viding over Luigi Stefanacci and Gustavo Masu. Fernando Arturo Munoz Miranda and Alejandro Suarez did make things interesting with a close 7-6 loss opposite Josh Israel and Benito Vlassis in The Gables. 

When singles play rolled along, FNU's fire dimmed amid a talented Raiders squad energized by a competitive round of doubles play. David Santamaria fell short of the win against Vlassis by a score of 6-2 in straight sets. Ignacio Acosta faced similar struggles in his 6-1, 6-1 loss to Aiden Lee. 

Suarez and Kopitzki were able to earn a more competitive scoreline in their losses to their respective opponents. Kopitzki fell 6-3, 7-5 to Benjamin Graham, while Lochlan Seth grabbed a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Suarez. Colgate's Jerome Falcon and Josh Israel completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Miranda and a 6-3, 6-1 win over Stefanacci.

This is the first match between these two East Coast universities and FNU men's tennis falls to 0-3 against NCAA DI and DII opponents in 2025. 

Up Next: Tennis will be in Georgia for two Sun Conference matches against SCAD Savannah and the College of Coastal Georgia on March 21-22.
