Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

FNU suffers two-game losing skid

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2025) — Florida National men's basketball (5-18) fell 100-68 to the University of Fort Lauderdale (14-8) at the Scott Galvin Community Center Feb. 19. Florida National is now 1-5 against UFTL in its last six meetings.

Men's basketball came into Wednesday night's contest against the Eagles looking to shake off a disappointing Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) loss to Florida College on Feb. 17. The Conquistadors claimed a 94-61 setback against the Falcons and were unable to get a significant scoring run when they needed it opposite the Eagles.

Fort Lauderdale had five players in double figures, shooting 52.7% from the floor as a team. Their efficiency and shot selection proved to outlast the Conquistadors, despite Jeremy Arnum's 16 points in  27 minutes on the floor. Gary Adams was another bright spot for FNU, attacking the rim and getting others involved with 12 points and five assists.

UFTL, however, found production from Da'Shaun Stigler and Corey Pope, as both guards combined for 33 Eagle points. Benez Woodard also impressed with just three missed shots for 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Notably, FNU cut UFTL's 20-plus lead to a manageable 13 with seven minutes remaining in the second half. The Eagles weathered FNU's storm down the stretch to put its lead back up to 32 in the closing minutes of the second period.

Up Next: The Conquistadors' regular season finale is set for Feb. 24 against UFTL on the road. The game will begin at 6 p.m. at the Scott Galvin Community Center.
