De Gracia helps FNU score back-to-back wins

BRADENTON, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2025) — Conquistador women's basketball (5-5) used stout defense to force 26 turnovers in a hard-fought 52-48 win over New College of Florida (4-4). FNU outscored the Banyans 35-23 in the second half to sweep the season series between these two teams on the road.

In the first two frames of the afternoon, both teams got off to a slow start offensively. FNU shot 25% from the field, while a tough FNU defense allowed two field goals on 12 attempts (16.7%). NCF was able to pull away with a 10-8 lead due in part to a pair of made threes from Halle Shelt. For FNU, Kaylee Llanos had four early points while Maria De Gracia Karamanites and Ziul Gonzalez tallied one bucket before both teams regrouped for the next period.

NCF's offense ticked upwards in the second, outpacing FNU 15-9 before halftime. Sania Thomas capitalized at the free-throw line by converting all four of her shots at the line en route to eight points in the quarter. A timely three from Jaylyn Laguna helped keep FNU afloat, and the freshman tallied six crucial points as FNU looked to cut into its 25-17 deficit in the third.

Thanks to a seven-point run from De Gracia, FNU was able to take control of the contest and post a 19-point third quarter. FNU was active all over the court and recorded four steals on five Banyans turnovers in the period. NCF shot 30.8% from the field and was led by four-point runs from Thomas and CiCi Moore.

In the final 10 minutes, the Conquistadors closed out their second win this week thanks to a five-point quarter from Gonzalez and De Gracia. NCF was held to 10 in the quarter and could not obtain timely scores when they needed them most. FNU continued to execute its defense with precision, forcing nine turnovers to close out its time in Bradenton, Fla., on top.

Two-time Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Defensive Player of the Week De Gracia ended things with a team-high 15 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Laguna continued to provide much-needed offense with 10 in the win, and the freshman battled down low for nine rebounds.
