Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Brenda Bogle

Warriors execute late for 74-72 win over FNU

HIALEAH, Fla. (Dec. 16, 2025) — FNU women's basketball (6-6) saw another close battle against Webber International University (5-6) slip through its fingers, falling 74-72 to the Warriors at Bucky Dent Park. Valeria Cifuentes was exceptional in the fourth with nine points in the frame, but eight turnovers in the final 10 minutes sealed FNU's fate.

In the opening half, FNU looked to redeem itself from an 86-75 loss at home against WIU on Nov. 25. FNU allowed 49 Warrior rebounds and allowed a triple-double from Camryn Patterson (14 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists). Rebounding did not seem to hurt FNU in this contest, but turnovers were its Achilles Heel. FNU tallied 17 turnovers in the first half yet managed to trail just 34-28 at the halftime mark.

Maria De Gracia Karamanites was unguardable in the first quarter with nine points, three rebounds, and a block, while Janaina Goncalves paced her side with six first-quarter points. Webber won the battle on the glass 13-8 and used this momentum to force 14 Conquistador giveaways in the second quarter. Ziul Gonzalez led the way in the second with a six-point burst but sloppy work in the middle of the court led to easy buckets for Webber in transition.

Halftime adjustment for FNU seemed to settle in during the third, as FNU outscored the Warriors 27-18 to take the lead at the end of the period. De Gracia was a big part of this FNU run with 11 points on an efficient 5-6 performance from the field. Webber still shot 44% but FNU was able to limit WIU's trips to the line, closing out the frame on back-to-back transition layups from De Gracia and Cifuentes for the 55-52 FNU lead.

The fourth was a less-than-ideal showing for FNU, as a foul from Kaylee Llanos and a technical foul assessed to the guard from Hialeah, Fla., resulted in an unprecedented 68-64 Webber lead with under four minutes left on the clock. Webber played the clock beautifully for a transition three from Neri Moreau at the two-minute mark, taking advantage of De Gracia dealing with some cramping in her leg during the crucial final minutes of the contest. Patterson split a pair of free throws down the stretch, as FNU could not generate enough offense in the time allotted.

Notably, Cifuentes impressed with nine points on 3-5 shooting from the floor, knocking down three shots from the charity stripe to finish the game with 11. De Gracia was stout with a double-double of 24 points, 10 rebounds. Gonzalez and Jaylyn Laguna posted 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Up Next: The Conquistadors have their second to last exhibition of 2025-26 against Saint Leo University on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m.
