Gonzalez and Llanos lift FNU past Royals

HIALEAH, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2025) — Women's basketball (6-5) used solid performances from Kaylee Llanos, Ziul Gonzalez and Maria De Gracia Karamanites at home to close out the Warner University Royals (4-6) 64-60. The Conquistadors used a third-quarter burst to garner their fifth program win against Warner.

Signs of a close one on the court of Bucky Dent Park were evident from a tightly contested 17-14 first quarter, where Warner grabbed a vulnerable lead to end the frame. From the opening tip, Chanelle Harrison found success attacking the basket and ended the quarter with seven hard-earned points at the rim.

Aleyna Sherman also helped out the Royals with five in the period as FNU was paced by six from Jaylyn Laguna on a pair of transition threes. De Gracia was special early on the glass with seven boards to go along with four points as FNU looked to close off attacking lanes for Warner guards and close out on shooters with greater effect in the second.

Before the break, the Conquistadors' second quarter used a 2-3 performance at the three-point line from Llanos to hold Warner within one at the break. Llanos was special with a four-point play in the quarter that brought the FNU bench to its feet, while Gonzalez also found her shot from long range with three made threes in the frame. Shooter Julia Gilbert kept Warner in the advantage with a six-point second as Warner shot 40% from the floor heading to the third.

A stifling FNU defense dominated the second half. The Conquistadors clogged the lanes with active hands, causing 11 turnovers for the Royals and grabbing eight steals through the final two periods of the game. FNU held Warner to seven points in the third to take a late lead thanks to a combined nine points from Gonzalez and De Gracia.

Defense fed FNU's offense, especially in the fourth, where Llanos picked up three steals and ten points in the final minutes to close out Warner for the first time in her FNU career. Warner took advantage of some late foul calls, going 9-12 from the charity stripe but ran out of time down the stretch.

De Gracia grabbed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth. Gonzalez posted 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Llanos used 34 minutes of play to tally 21 points, seven steals and five boards.

Up Next: Women's basketball stays local with a 5 p.m. rematch at home against Webber International on Dec. 16.
