Ubeda and Reyes Amaya send FNU to CAC semifinal

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 7, 2025) — Goals from Florida National's (3-7-1) Latyfath Ubeda and Delmis Reyes Amaya in the second half earn the Conquistadors their first conference tournament win against Carolina University (4-11-3), advancing to the semifinal round of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament.

The Bruins were the first to find the back of the net thanks to an unassisted goal from Peyton Battilla. Carolina broke down FNU's defense with a lethal counterattack that left Battilla with a clear shot on goal down the middle of the box that Andrea Oropeza could not get in front of her. This set off an offensive surge for the Bruins, where Natalie Puskar and Alex Anderson had great opportunities to increase their lead but saw their shots miss wide or land in the gloves of Oropeza.

At the break, FNU tallied five shots and a corner kick while the Bruins' one-score lead highlighted a six-shot, two-corner opening period.

At the 51st-minute mark of the second period, Ubeda broke through for the freshman's third goal of 2025 to level the game once more. This foreshadowed an impressive scoring run for the Miami native, as Reyes Amaya set up Ubeda's confident shot from the left side of the box that found the inside of the right top corner of the net. Ubeda rushed to FNU's bench and was enveloped by a rambunctious FNU squad on the brink of a historic program victory, up 2-1.

Reyes Amaya continued to be a problem for the Bruins, icing the game on a brilliant goal in the 73rd to put two scores between themselves and Carolina. Ubeda picked up the assist on the goal, and Carolina was running out of time in a hurry. FNU insured this by milking the clock when possible and using the clock to their advantage whenever possible.

The Bruins tallied three shots to close out the frame that were either wide left or saved by Oropeza. The Venezuelan goalie tallied four saves, and FNU tallied three corner kicks to go along with 11 total shots.
