Luque and Sette Ribeiro deliver a 2-1 win over Hesston

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 7, 2025) — Florida National men's soccer (11-3-3) avoided a disastrous exit in the first round of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament, defeating Hesston College (11-7-1) 2-1. CAC Newcomer of the Year David Luque Rivero and second team honoree Filipe Sette Ribeiro scored goals in the second half to send FNU through to the conference semifinal round.

In the first half, FNU was knocking on the door for most of the period with no score to show for their efforts. FNU tallied six shots and five corners in the period, leaving Hesston off balance with just one Lark shot in the opening 45. Lark goalkeeper Harry Morris was special in the opener with impressive saves to keep the Conquistadors off the board.

When play resumed in the second, it seemed inevitable for FNU to punch in a goal, and the moment finally came in the 60th. Sette Ribeiro received a high cross in the middle of the box from Fabio Zandona Tajra and used one quick, high touch to boot his first postseason goal. It was Sette Ribeiro's 15th goal of the season and seemed to be enough to send the Larks packing.

The tone of the match shifted in the 77th, when a set piece delivered by Yura Yamazaki resulted in a low, nonchalant shot from Alexander Radu that sneaked past goalkeeper Vitor Caetano Pedrosa. Radu roared at the Lark fans in the stands, signaling that this game was far from over. FNU responded accordingly, subbing back into the contest Juan Pugin and Sette Ribeiro with 11 minutes left on the clock.

Three minutes later, Luque did what he does best and converted a strong pass from Dylan Robert Ray Frank Gibbs to end the Lark's postseason run in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Caetano ended the match with one save while FNU totaled 15 shots and 10 corner kicks.

Up Next: FNU meets RV Bellevue University Sunday at 8 p.m. for a spot in the CAC Championship match.
