Four Bobcat goals mark FNU’s third straight loss

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2025) — Conquistador women's soccer (0-5-1) allowed four goals in the second half, falling to the St. Thomas University Bobcats (7-3-3) on the road. Goalkeeper Sarah Layrennys Lugo Castillo picked up 11 saves in FNU's tenth program loss to its cross-town rival.

In the first half, FNU and the Bobcats were evenly matched in the middle of the field. FNU was doing a great job of cutting off attacking angles for Bobcat forwards. Angelina Carreno and Daniela Sermini were especially impactful in keeping STU off the board despite the home team tallying seven shots.

Offensively, FNU didn't generate a ton of scoring opportunities with much of its focus on defense. The Conquistadors totaled two shots in the first half, thanks to attempts from Gabriela Bortolon and a strike from Latyfath Ubeda that ended up in the gloves of goalkeeper Isabella Penaranda. Lugo racked up two saves and STU forced the only two corner kicks of the half.

In the final 45 minutes of the match, Natalie Woodward got her team on the board thanks to a 59th-minute goal assisted by Ella Campbell. This seemed to open the floodgates for STU and the Bobcats ushered in their second goal of the evening off the boot of Annika Muggenburg a minute later. FNU was unable to recover from these offensive blows, allowing a 63rd-minute goal by Ariana Vazquez.

Vazquez was relentless until the end of the frame, sneaking in a fourth goal for the Bobcats and her second score of the night before things were said and done in Miami Gardens, Fla. STU weathered a pair of FNU shot attempts midway through from Delmis Reyes Amaya and Maria Franca, posting an impressive 21 shots before the final whistle blew at Autonation Field.

Up Next: FNU heads to Georgia for the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College, starting Oct. 16.
