Conquistadors head to USCAA Tip-Off Final

MONACA, Pa. (Aug. 31, 2024) - Florida National's red-hot volleyball team (7-1) scored two more wins at the USCAA Tip-Off and booked its ticket to the final match later today at 6 p.m. The Conquistadors executed stellar wins over Christendom College (1-2) and the University of Cincinnati Clermont College (2-3) 3-0.

FNU had 34 kills versus Christendom and 37 kills in a 25-15, 25-21, 25-19 win. In game one versus the Crusader, FNU relied heavily on a nine kill performance from Kitula Amaya Morales. In the opening set CU's Catherine Brezinsky connected on a kill to make it a 21-14 FNU lead. This set off a 4-0 run for the Conquistadors, and two service aces by Taylor Purdy ended the frame.

FNU closed out the game in the next two sets, collecting 25-11 wins in both periods. Purdy had six service aces in the victory, while Emily Robello and Ivette Sandoval combined for 23 assists.

Game two proved to be the fifth straight contest FNU has completed without a set lost. The Conquistadors allowed just 26 kills and 18 attack errors by UCC. Sara Lizano Joya, Sofia Moreno Bendala and Gabriela Gonzalez picked up one block a piece in FNU's seventh win of the 2024 season.

Purdy started the game hot for FNU, with two service aces helping give FNU a 7-1 lead in the first. Attack errors by Ashley Kaminsky and Annika Obert ended the set for UCC and marked the fifth and sixth attacking missteps of the frame. The Conquistadors weathered a more competitive second frame, escaping with a 25-21 in set two.

FNU grabbed 50 digs in the victory and surpassed last season's win total just two weeks into the 2024 season.
