Conquistadors move to 5-3 in CAC play

SUMTER, SC. (April 12, 2024) - Florida National University's baseball team (17-21) split a Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) doubleheader versus Morris College (3-4) Friday. The Conquistadors took a 1-0 series lead after a 9-8 win over the Hornets before falling in game two, 19-14. MC posted an impressive 24 hits in game two and kept a clean game to open the afternoon with no errors in game one. FNU combined for 22 hits, standing four games under .500 at the end of day one in South Carolina.

In game one, first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez connected on two hits in three visits to the plate. Jordan LewisRoberto Fernandez and Erick Rodriguez each posted a homer in the victory. MC's pitcher, Guillermo Morel, collected just three strikeouts through seven innings on the mound, allowing all nine of the Conquistadors' runs. The Hornets' Christopher Titus was excellent from the batter's box, posting a hit and two RBIs.

Game two was a show-stopper for Morris, as the Hornets had nine different players record a hit. Jeremy Roberts posted four base hits in the win and MC ended the game with 16 RBIs. Lewis continued his hot streak from game one, blasting a homer and a double. FNU posted 10 RBIs and drew 11 walks.
