MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2024) - Florida National University men's tennis team opened the 2024 season with a 6-1 loss to the NCAA DII Barry University Buccaneers. The Bucs were able to launch themselves to a dominant win thanks to solid play in the singles and doubles portion of the competition. 

BU pair Simone Cavalleri and Tim Riedel got the 6-1 win over Luis Figueroa and Bryan Cajamarca. Guido Gentile and Alejandro Suarez played well in the match against Robert Simon and Roberto Campoverde before falling 7-5. Lennart Ostheimer and Luigi Stefanacci were also unable to get the job done against Leo Caill and Vlad Popescu, losing 6-4. 

In singles play, Barry was electric as Riedel and Popescu got relatively easy wins, 6-0, 6-4, and 6-0, 6-3, respectively. BU looked prime for a clean sweep but was denied a point off an impressive 3-6, 6-4,10-4 win from Stefanacci over BU's Hayze Loop.

Luis Figueroa / Bryan Cajamarca lost to Simone Cavalleri / Tim Riedel (1-6)

Number two:

Lennart Ostheimer / Luigi Stefanacci lost to Leo Caill / Vlad Popescu (4-6)

Number three: 

Guido Gentile / Alejandro Suarez lost to Robert Simon / Roberto Campoverde (5-7)

Singles Competition: 

Ignacio Acosta falls to Tim Riedel (0-6, 4-6)

Guido Gentile falls to Leo Caill (2-6, 3-6)

Lennart Ostheimer falls to Simone Cavalleri (2-6, 3-6)

Alejandro Suarez falls to Vlad Popescu (0-6, 1-6)

Luigi Stefanacci defeated Hayze Loop (3-6, 6-4,10-4)

David Santamaria falls to Robert Simon (1-6, 6-2,10-12)
