Conquistadors fall in final regular season match

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2024) — Florida National (3-6-2) had no answer for a hungry Barry University Buccaneer (8-5-2) squad Monday. Barry handed FNU a 4-0 loss, the Conquistadors' third shutout defeat of the 2024 season. 

In the first half, Barry was slow to get things going on offense. With just five shots, FNU kept them at bay thanks to brilliant defensive efforts from captain Enma Amaya and goalie Hailey Llijin. The junior goalkeeper had two saves in the first half before Iandra Sabattine Soares de Souza took over to close out the second period. FNU's Delmis Reyes Amaya had the only shot for the Conquistadors in the first that was quickly saved by goalkeeper Fernanda MayrinK.

Despite a frustrating first half, Barry would not be denied for long. Three minutes into the second, Alia Jaidi scored the opening goal thanks to a pass from Kaitlin Conway. Six minutes later, Ashley Finn doubles Barry's lead with her fourth goal of the season after a leading pass from Cordelia Brown.

Things went from bad to worse for FNU when Jaidi posted her second goal of the evening, and Olivia Bradley laced her first of the season to capture Barry's eighth win. FNU was held to no shots in the second period and Barry totaled 20. Defender Daniela Sermini picked up FNU's lone yellow card, and FNU dropped to 0-3 all-time against the Bucs.
