Gkantatsios and Betancourt are the CAC’s Cross Country Runners of the Week

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 7, 2024) - Florida National's Dimitrios Gkantatsios and Lismar Bentancourt take home the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Cross Country Runners of the Week awards. This is the third time Bentancourt has taken home this honor in 2024 and the first time for transfer Gkantatsios.

"Gkantatsios, the men's award winner, had a strong debut for the Conquistadors at last Saturday's Ave Maria University Invitational by placing 49th with a time of 29:14.8 over the 8-kilometer race," said the CAC's press release."The meet had runners from NCAA Division I and Division II teams, including Florida International University and the University of Tampa."

"Bentancourt, the women's honoree, set a personal and school record with a 24:01.7 time over six kilometers at the Ave Maria Invitational," said the CAC."The Valencia, Venezuela, native was among the top 15 finishers when competing against runners from NCAA Division I and Division II competitors."

This marks the third time Florida National has swept the conference's weekly cross country awards this season.

Gkantatsios, Bentancourt and Florida National close out the 2024 regular season at the Ed Holloway Collegiate Classic on Oct. 18.
