Offensive struggles highlight 5-0 loss to Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Oct. 30, 2024) — The Conquistador men's soccer team (4-7-2) suffered a 5-0 loss to close out the 2024 regular season against NCAA DII Barry University (4-8-2). The Buccaneer's Oier Calvillo had a goal and three assists to earn Barry's its second program win against the Conquistadors.

In the first half, Barry took a one-score lead four minutes into its Senior Night. Calvillo took advantage of a pretty pass from Juan Simoniello to put his team ahead early before slinging a pass to Joao Domenici for another Barry score in the 18th. Calvillo's brilliance continued two minutes later as he orchestrated a goal from Stepan Maltsev.

Juan Pugin was the only Conquistador to record a shot in the period after missing wide left at the 16th minute mark. Leading 3-0 did not satisfy a hungry Buccaneer squad, as a goal from Joram Bogers assisted by Calvillo and Juan Valiente proved to shock the Conquistadors defense on the road.

Goalkeeper Lucas Pereira Silva was subbed out to start the second half after facing eight shots and recording four saves. Veteran Juan Manuel Fermoselle took over for the Conquistadors but could not keep Barry off the board for long. In the 62nd minute, a foul by Agustin Nicolas Morales in the penalty area set the stage for Bogers second goal of the contest. Barry's goalkeeper Rafael Furlani denied shots from Christian Omar Hernandez and Diogo De Grutolla Ramblas before securing his third save of the period on an attempt by Mateo Mantchoff in the 65th.

Due to heavy rain, the game was called with twenty minutes left unplayed.
