FNU concedes four second half goals in 5-1 loss to Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2024) - Florida National (3-5-2) will have to wait for its first program victory against Webber International University (2-7-0), after faltering 5-1 to the Warriors on the road. Florida National allowed four second-half goals in the loss and dropped to 0-6-0 against the Warriors in as many contests.

The first half for the Conquistadors had a rocky start after WIU's Olof Sigurdardottir converted a stellar pass from Holly Tyrell into the contest's first goal. Despite trailing the next 21 minutes, FNU went into halftime with the match tied at one score each after a clutch, unassisted goal by sophomore Delmis Reyes Amaya in the 32nd minute. The Warriors' defense held FNU to just four shots and their counterattack helped them generate 11 shots in the period.

The tone of the second half was set by a goal from WIU's Yerika Pereira. Her unassisted stunner kept WIU lead alive until goals from Rylee Bolser and Solimar Hernandez in the 77th and 79th minutes, respectively, silenced any hope of an FNU comeback in the frame. Pereira was able to score once more with three minutes remaining with some help from Hernandez with the assist. WIU totaled 22 second-half shots while FNU's offense was stagnant with just one attempt toward Webber keeper Juliana Grider's net.

Notably, FNU's Reyes Amaya now has six goals this season.

Up Next: FNU's final regular season match is against the NCAA DII Barry Buccaneers. Kickoff is set for Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
