Tigers trounce Conquistadors 3-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2024) - Florida National's red-hot women's soccer team (3-4-2) faced a slight setback Thursday in a 3-0 loss to the NCAA DII Edward Waters University Tigers (5-6-1). The Conquistadors had previously executed a 2-2 draw when the Tigers visited Milander Park on Sept. 25.

Two goals from Delmis Reyes Amaya were enough to keep EWU at bay for the Conquistadors' first tie of the season. Thursday, however, proved to be a scoring drought for the visitors. FNU posted just two shots in the opening half and recorded the same number of attempts in the second half despite trailing the whole period.

EWU's Rose-Bertude Rosinvil got her team on the board with a goal seven minutes before halftime thanks to a stellar pass from Dadie Cherenfant. Rosinvil's low kick down the center of the goal was a prelude to an impressive offensive performance for the Tigers, as Libby Brown laced another EWU goal in the 44th minute that snuck into the top left corner past Hailey Llijin.

The second half proved to be another solid stretch of soccer for the home team. Dahien Cabrera was the next tiger to record a goal in the box score, scoring in the 64th minute to put even more pressure on FNU to get something going.

Gabriela Bortolon Brito and Iandra Sabattine Soares de Souza both had shots on goal that were quickly covered by goalkeeper Sheila Pascual in the final 45 minutes. FNU ended the afternoon allowing 10 Tiger shots and both teams did not attempt a corner in the contest. This is the third loss to EWU in program history for the Conquistadors and the second time FNU has fallen short versus the Tigers in its last four matches.
