Women’s soccer completes season sweep of Falcons Tuesday

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2024) - After a more than two-week hiatus, Florida National's women's soccer team (3-3-2) returned to action and bested the Florida College Falcons (0-9-1) 2-1 on the road. The Conquistadors used an electric performance from Delmis Reyes Amaya to move to 3-0 against Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) opponents.

Florida National had previously defeated the Falcons on Sept. 21, 1-0 to close out the FNU Classic hosted at Milander Park. Gabriela Bortolon Brito was a huge factor in that match, scoring the game-winning goal in front of a jubilant home crowd.

Brito was once again very important against the Falcons, linking up with Enma Amaya for an assist to Delmis Reyes Amaya to take a 1-0 lead. FNU was comfortably in the driver's seat before Reyes Amaya laced her second score of the afternoon on a pass from Brito to bring her total on the year to five.

Before the half, FC strung together some solid passes to cut FNU's lead in half on a goal by Paula Rincon Carrillo after a smart pass by Addison Rogers. Both teams had great looks at goal in the first, combining for 15 shots, and Hailey Llijin dove for three saves in the half.

In the second, both teams were aggressively looking to gain a tactical advantage. FC's Claribel Hernandez was given a yellow card in the 68th minute, while FNU had to play the last 18 minutes of the game with 10 players after Natalya Laura Paula was given a red card. Addison Rogers and Brito were also accessed yellow cards before FNU held the Falcons scoreless to close out its third win of 2024.

Up Next: FNU is at Edward Waters University on Thursday for a 3 p.m. battle in Jacksonville, Fla.
