Warriors fight off Conquistadors 17-7

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 19, 2023) – Designated hitter Roberto Fernandez wasted no time in the seventh of Florida National close Wednesday afternoon matchup, bombing a three-RBI homer to cut the Webber University Warriors lead to 10-7 in the eighth. What followed was a master class from the No. 10 team in the country, as the Warriors pulled off a 17-7 win in eight innings over the Conquistadors after dropping seven runs in the bottom of the frame.

FNU was the first team to score in this mid-afternoon NAIA head-to-head in Babson Park, Fla. A costly walk on first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez with the bases loaded ran in Erick Rodriguez. The Warriors responded quickly in the second, tying up the game at 1-1 on an RBI double to center field from Tyren Milliner. Webber's Drake Dobyanski gave his team the lead on a homer to center field in the third.

The next two frames saw the Warriors collect three runs and four hits. Holding a 5-1 lead in the sixth, the Conquistadors cut the Warrior lead to just one after an RBI sacrifice fly from Jose Carpena and a two-RBI single from Alejandro De Arazoza

After seeing their lead dissipate to a concerning degree, the Warriors came alive in the last two innings of the contest for 12 runs and eight hits despite Fernandez's three-run homer in the eighth. Webber got the win on a three-RBI double to left center that run-ruled the visiting Conquistadors.

FNU collected 11 hits and no errors while Webber had 14 hits and one error.
