We want it that way: FNU softball sweeps final day in Viera

VIERA, Fla. (March 17, 2023) – Florida National University's softball team bounced back from a tough Thursday at the USSSA Space Coast Games with two solid wins over tough opponents. The Conquistadors secured a 3-2 win over RV Missouri Baptist and an 11-1 rout of Clarke University.

In game one, FNU found themselves in the hole early, trailing 2-0 for the majority of the contest. In the second, FNU gave up an RBI single for the Warriors' first score of the afternoon. Another base hit to center field pushed in another Missouri Baptist score. Pitcher Jona Goolsby did a solid job of getting some much-needed outs and allowed just four hits up until that point in the contest.

Despite facing a 2-0 deficit, FNU exploded in the sixth as Yleisha Perez scored on a costly error from the Warriors that advanced Sabrina Castelli to first. A stellar RBI triple courtesy of Janessa Esquibel sent Castelli home for the game-tying run. Esquibel came up big for the game-clinching run off a double from Ana "Gabi" De Oliveira Obando.

FNU ended the game with just three hits to the Warriors' nine. FNU committed one error while Missouri Baptist had two. In game two, the Conquistadors racked up 11 runs on their way to a dominant victory over Clarke University. The Pride recorded four hits and four errors while FNU had five hits and zero errors.
