Softball routs Fisher Falcons 17-0 for first CAC win

VIERA, Fla. (March 10, 2023) – Florida National University's softball team pulled together a stellar nine-run, five-hit fifth inning en route to a demoralizing 17-0 win over Continental Athletic Conference foe the Fisher College Falcons. FNU conquered its eighth win in the last nine games while the Falcons continue their search for a win standing at 0-10 in 2023.

In the second, a triple from Yleisha Perez allowed Sabrina Castelli, Jordan Bohn and Madison "MJ" Chiudina to head in for a 3-0 FNU lead. Perez would score shortly after on a wild pitch to close out a four-run, three-hit inning for the Conquistadors with one runner left on.

At the top of the third FNU's Ana "Gabi" De Oliveira Obando, Janessa Esquibel, Chiudina and Tara McCaffery delivered one run apiece before retiring the side. McCaffery also recorded a triple in the inning as the Conquistadors connected on three hits and capitalized on three Falcon errors.

FNU's show-stopping fourth inning put this game to rest as a two-RBI single from Makayla Monckton scored Alexis Lendo and Heather CuddyA few plays later, The Falcons made a costly mistake, as Sydni Bigelli was hit by a pitch sending Monckton to third and pushing  Hayley Zimmerman to home for another FNU run. Megen Johnson, Perez and Bigeli each ran in a score to bring an end to the onslaught win for the Conquistadors.

Pitchers Jona Goolsby and Janessa Esquibel did a great job from the circle for the afternoon allowing no runs and one hit in five innings of play. Esquibel had a solid three strikeouts and walked just one Falcon batter.

FNU committed one error in the contest while the Falcons had six.
