BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 14, 2023) – Florida National University's men's basketball team struck out against Contentieal Athletic Conference foe Washington Adventist University. The Shock (14-5) handed FNU its tenth loss and dropped the Conquistadors (3-10) to 1-2 in conference play thus far this season.

The first half was a tough battle for FNU, as the Conquistadors went cold from the floor shooting 14.3% (3-21) before the break. Trailing 44-10, FNU coughed the ball up 11 times while only forcing five WAU turnovers in the period. Yasmani Torriente was the leading scorer for FNU, with three points on 1-4 shooting in 16 minutes of play. Meanwhile, the Shock lived up to their name, rattling in 17 of 33 shots attempted for a 51.5% shooting onslaught.

In the second half, FNU put up some more respectable numbers hanging 35 points in the half before the game came to a close. 

Jovan Debrito showed some signs of life with eight points in the second after going scoreless in the opening period. Matthew Robinson also ended his night with decent 11 points, three steals and two assists after putting up zero points in the first. Torriente continued to be a consistent option for FNU and put up 13 points in the second half.

Despite a solid performance from multiple contributors, the Shock got off to such an early advantage, FNU was unable to close the gap. Torriente ended his time in Massachusetts with 16 points, three rebounds and one assist. Marcos Molina continues to distribute the ball with a team-high four assists. 

FNU ended the night shooting 38% (19-50) from the field for the contest and 5-8 (62.5%) from the charity stripe. WAU went perfect 15-15 from the free-throw line and shot 45.9% (28-61) for the evening.
