Conquistador volleyball loses to Florida College in CAC title match

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2022) – Florida National volleyball earns runner-up in the Continental Athletic Conference Volleyball Championships after falling to Florida College in three sets. The Conquistadors went 3-2 over the weekend in Temple Terrace, Florida, their only loss coming to the eventual conference champion. FNU ends its season at 10-13 following a tremendous winning streak at the end of the season ending in a 7-2 record over their last nine contest.



Set One FNU Notables (16-25)

  • The Falcons jumped to a 19-9 lead in the opening set of the title match
  • Joanne Dania had four kills in the match to make the score 12-19 but the deficit was too much for FNU to overcome
  • Leah Brown had the final kill that gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the contest

Set Two FNU Notables (17-25)

  • FNU looked primed to take back some momentum in this set as Layla Cortez's kill cut the Falcons' lead to 17-14
  • FNU seemed to run out of steam as the Falcons put some distance between them and their competitors in their packed home court
  • A block by Emma Noskey ended the set as the Falcons were inching closer to their CAC title

Set Three FNU Notables (19-25)

  • Despite being down 2-0, FNU kept things close tying the set at 13-13
  • Florida College went on a 12-6 run through the last minutes of play
  • A service error from Juliana Santos that sailed past the line ended the match



Match Notables:

  • All-Conference first-team member Joanne Dania had 10 kills and a team-high 18 digs in the contest
  • Four kills for Lina Valentino in the match
  • Twenty of FNU's 26 assists came courtesy of Ivette Sandoval
