FNU SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS TO COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Florida National University softball team (2-2) faced the College of Coastal Georgia who received votes on the 2020 NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll that came out on January 15th. FNU lost both games of a doubleheader 4-0 and 3-0. the contest was played on Sunday afternoon at Brunswick High School, home of the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jones showed out in her first game as a Mariner. She went 3-3 at the plate scoring one run and an RBI. Jones was the only Mariner to record multiple hits in each game. She also recorded a game-high two stolen bases.
  • Coastal Georgia took Florida National three up three down in three innings, the third, fifth and seventh.
  • The Mariners capitalized in the second and third. Jones started Coastal Georgia off with a single to left-center, she then stole second. Solomon doubled to bring her home.
  • Solomon came home on a long single from Woldron to extend the lead 2-0 in the bottom of the second.
  • In the next inning, Hiley hit a single to shortstop. Garcia entered as her pinch runner and advanced to second on a stolen base.
  • Dickerson hit a single up the middle advancing Garcia to third. Jones then collected her second hit of the game and her first RBI of her college career by bringing Garcia home with a single to right-center.
  • Dickerson advanced to second on Jones single and then to third on a wild pitch. She came home on a fielder's choice.
  • The Mariners would hold onto the lead the remaining four innings to collect their first win of the 2020 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jones was again the offensive tool in game two. She again recorded three hits in three at-bats. She added a run scored as well.
  • The Mariners got on the board in the bottom of the second. Jones started off the inning with a single to right and advanced to second on the sacrifice bunt from Breanna Wells. The Mariners went up 1-0.
  • Coastal Georgia added two more in the fifth. With one out, Juliana Bellflower reached base on a fielding error.
  • The Mariners made that hurt when Waldron stepped up to bat and homered over the left-field wall. Coastal Georgia then led 3-0.
  • The Mariners held onto this lead for the next two innings to win game two 3-0.

WHAT'S NEXT:
Florida National University Softball team will now face Edward Waters College for a double-header on Sunday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm. The game will take place at Jacksonville, FL.
