AVE MARIA, Fla. (October 6, 2020) – The Florida National Conquistadors (2-5) fell to the Ave Maria Gyrenes (7-2), 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-11), on Tuesday evening.
FNU jumped out to an early lead, taking set one, 25-21. The Gyenes responded in the second set, with a 25-12 win to tie the match at 1-all. FNU and AMU battled back-and-forth in the third set however the Gyrenes pulled away late to take the set, 25-20. The match was clinched with a fourth-set victory by Ave Maria, 25-11.
FNU was led by
Joanne Dania, who posted a team-high 10 kills.
Lina Valentino registrered seven kills and a team-high hitting percentage of .385.
Carolina Arrais Dantas notched a squad-best 14 digs while setter
Gabriela Hernandez recorded a team-leading 23 assists.
The Conquistadors ended the night with an .087 hitting percentage, registering 33 kills on 115 total attacks with 23 attack errors. The Gyrenes tallied a hitting percentage of .380 with 58 kills and 17 attack errors on 108 total attacks. AMU held a 52-31 edge in digs and recorded 6.0 total blocks. FNU posted 2.0 total block.
The Conquistadors return to action on Wednesday, October 7, at St. Thomas. Game time from the Fernandez Family Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
