Self-described as a driven, dedicated professional in the world of collegiate basketball, Javier Gil joined Florida National’s men’s basketball staff during the 2025-26 season as a volunteer assistant and worked his way to an assistant coaching role for the men's and women's teams in his debut with the Conquistadors. Gil, ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, transitioned away from men's basketball and will serve solely as an assistant coach for Chanel Davila in her second season at the helm.

Before bringing his talents to FNU, Gil put in long hours as an equipment manager for Florida International University. His time with the Panthers made him well-versed in managing equipment, uniforms, locker rooms, and player logistics, ensuring teams are prepared to perform at a high level. In this role with FIU, he was also able to contribute to player development through one-on-one skill work, film breakdown, scouting reports and daily practice preparation.

The summer of 2025 saw Gil lend his time to team Level Up in the Miami Pro League, working with top professional players from around the world.

Since becoming a member of head coach Daniel Pressman’s staff, Gil has helped Pressman build a culture of discipline and teamwork at all levels of the team. He currently leads the program’s junior varsity (development) team and helped the squad garner a third-place finish at the URBE Thanksgiving Classic.

With Davila, Gil helped the Conquistadors garner a spot in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) semi-final against the eventual titleholder, Haskell Indian Nations University, and earn two all-CAC honorees. Additionally, FNU and Gil posted three USCAA All-Americans and tallied 11 weeks with at least one student-athlete selected as the player of the week across both leagues.

A native of Miami, Fla., Gil is currently pursuing his bachelor's in sports management from FIU.
