Ubeda’s first FNU goal highlights loss to Bellevue

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Sept. 27, 2025) — Florida National women's soccer (0-4-1) allowed seven goals in a loss to Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) rival Bellevue University (7-1-2) Saturday. Newcomer Latyfath Ubeda had the only Conquistador goal of the early afternoon match, and FNU drops to 0-1-0 in CAC play this season.

In the first half, Bellevue put itself in the driver's seat thanks to back-to-back goals from Adi Kasel. Kasel's opening goals were four minutes apart and came via passes from Katrina Avila and Maju Serrano, respectively.

It became a 3-0 BU lead after Prescillia Casu made some magic happen on an assisted goal from outside the 18-yard box in the 23rd minute. During this time, Ubeda picked up the intensity to her detriment, drawing a yellow card after pushing a Bruin to the ground. This change of tone, however, also helped Ubeda pelt a stellar goal to the top left corner on a free kick right outside the penalty box with three minutes left in the half.

FNU tallied three shots to the Bruins' 14 in the period and Sarah Layrennys Lugo Castillo posted eight of her nine saves.

The second half was a total take over by the Bruins. The squad out of Nebraska had four second-half goals, including two from Mia Hurt in the 61st and 77th minute. Kasel went on to record a hat trick with her third goal of the match in the 79th minute and Beth Cowd's 84th minute goal was the final score of this CAC battle in Miami Gardens, Fla.

This was the first-ever meeting between these two teams and was the Bruins' highest scoring game so far this season.

Up Next: FNU's next match is against St. Thomas University Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
