Women’s soccer succumb to EWU Tigers

HIALEAH, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2025) — Goals from Florida National's (1-7-1) Delmis Reyes Amaya and Angelina Carreno were not enough to best the NCAA DII Edward Waters University Tigers (5-8-1) Monday. FNU fell 5-2 at Milander Park, dropping to 0-3 at home in 2025.

FNU was the first to score in this shootout, taking advantage of a strong pass by Ellen Meijer to land Reyes her fourth goal this season seven minutes into the contest. Twenty minutes into the match, both teams were forced to seek shelter after the lightning alarm blasted through Milander Park. Play was able to continue two hours after the initial delay, and the Tigers used the break to shake off any fatigue from their six-hour trek to Hialeah, Fla.

In the 26th, Rose-Bertude Rosinvil used a blocked shot by Sarah Layrennys Lugo Castillo to net her first goal of the contest. Dadie Cherenfant was the next Tiger to find the back of the net, pelting a perfect moonball from long range to put her team ahead in the 29th minute. Before the delayed first half was over, Lugo went down awkwardly after trying to block an attempt by Dahien Cabrera and was forced to exit the contest. Andrea Oropeza took over for the remaining 52 minutes of the match.

The second half was more of the same for EWU, as it took just five minutes of the second half for Ellie Shurman to make it a 3-1 game on an unassisted score.

FNU did show a ton of grit in the final period, relying on two quick passes from Natalya Laura Paula and Latyfath Ubeda for Angelina Carreno's first career goal in the 67th. Carreno used a cross from Paula and a touch by Ubeda to threaten the Tigers' victory on the road. Eighty-second and eighty-fourth unassisted goals by Cabrera and Ellie Seekins put the final touches on FNU's seventh loss of the season.

FNU tallied six shots to the Tigers 40. The Conquistadors also had three of the 12 corner kicks awarded in the game.

Up Next: FNU's final regular season game is set for next Monday versus New College of Florida at 3 p.m.
