Florida National ends fall season 2-4

HIALEAH, Fla. (Dec. 13, 2023) — Florida National University's (2-4) young esports program completed a daunting fall slate with two victories and five completed Playfly Fortnite Qualifiers. The Conquistadors posted wins over Iona University and Lewis University, while Geronimo Salazar and Dimitrios Gkantatsios highlighted FNU's Fortnite campaign.

As FNU's lone competitor, newcomer Deniz Zeki saw serious playtime in the Playfly Open Builds One. Despite missing the next qualifier, Salazar made an appearance in the third qualifier of the season.

In League of Legends play, the Conquistadors faced various challenges in a competitive Playfly league. On Sept. 24, Erick Pinedo Murgas, Mario Benjamin, Caio Alves, Gabriel Colvara Neves and Cesar Mora suffered a 2-0 loss to George Fox University before falling to the University of Toledo by the same score the following week.

Emporia State University was another tough, shutout defeat but FNU saw its fortunes change with forfeit wins against Iona and Lewis.
